The aim of this project is to give audiences the experience of watching IPL Cricket and attending stadiums through live VR matches streaming. In 2020, COVID-19 affected people’s livelihoods. The most evident ones were the economical and health impact (Pak et al., 2020).
In order to develop an application that would target the main areas of opportunity and gaps in the market, a team of six postgraduate students and myself undertook a research, design, and development process with a duration of four months. In order to fulfill the demands of each stage of the process, seven roles were created.
As the Design Lead I worked closely alongside fellow teammates. Part of the role included responsibilities such as idea proposition for the project, structure analysis for feasibility, content organization for presentations, visual assets, branding feedback, and the development of the high-fidelity prototype, user flow, and the final walkthrough of the prototype. It was also overseen that all final materials were coherent and consistent with the project’s aim and objectives, and visual guidelines.
While fans are increasingly watching their favorite sports from the comfort of their living rooms, the five major US sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS) are looking into virtual reality (VR) to boost their attendance, ratings, and viewing habits. VR is already a popular training tool for athletes and very popular for sports gaming, so it could become a new way for fans to engage with their favorite sports (Jarvis, 2019).
